Breast Enlargement

Breast Enlargement is typically performed to enlarge small breasts, underdeveloped breasts, uneven breasts or breasts that have decreased in size after a women has had children. By surgically inserting an implant behind each breast, the results can be subtle to dramatic, depending on your preference. You can have larger, firmer fuller breasts after breast enlargement.

Usually an incision is made under the breast, around the areola (the dark area surrounding the nipple), in the armpit or through the navel. A pocket is created for the implant either behind the breast tissue or behind the muscle between the breast and the chest wall. Depending on the type and manufacturer of your breast implant, the implant may be already filled and placed inside the pocket as is, or it may be flat and then rolled while attached to a small tube. This type of implant allows the surgeon to insert the implant through a small incision and "tunnel" it under the skin and place it into the pocket where it is then filled (with saline) to the desired size. The small tube is removed and the breast implant remains filled and permanently sealed.

Breast Enlargement is usually performed as outpatient surgery. Following surgery, you will wear a gauze dressing or a surgical bra This type bra will be worn for several weeks after surgery. With Breast Enlargement, some swelling or discoloration will occur but will disappear shortly after surgery. Numbness is also common but will subside as well. Vigorous activities, especially arm movement, may be restricted for two to three weeks following Breast Surgery.
