Skin Cancer – Prevention and Treatment

Prevention is the number one treatment to avoid cancer of the skin. Although we do not know the cause of cancer we do know that we can significantly reduce the incidence of cancer. 

Protection from the sun is the most important way to reduce the incidence of skin cancer. This can be accomplished by using a complete sunscreen regularly.  A complete sunscreen must have an SPF of 15 and contain Titanium Dioxied and Zinc Oxide. This formula will assure protection from ultra-violet and infra-red radiation. Knowing that radiation levels are highest between the hours of 10:00AM and 3:00PM one should stay out of the sun as much as possible during these times. As responsible parents we should teach our children to use sunscreen on a daily basis – the earlier in life they develop this habit the more healthy their skin while reducing the incidence of skin cancer.
